Ramadan Kareem

I was fretting for the last two weeks about ramadan... how the hunger strike is going to get to my head... and how restraining from 10 things is going to be unbareable.... but I forgot what ramadan was all about until it started... Its about sleeping all day.. smoking shisha all night.... going to big buffet tents... over-doing what you couldn't do during the daytime... and watching cheap comedy shows.

Our dinner table at home for example... usually we don't have dessert after a meal.... why do we decide to have three types of desserts during ramadan? Wasn't it supposed to be living like poor people so we understand what they go through? If poor people ate heavy meals, smoked shisha at night, and woke up late every morning... I think earning an income is over-rated then.

Some people give you an attitude during the day since they're fasting... I understand.. they're addicted to smoking and feel hungry... but don't they have something to reflect on at night? I think rather than fasting... we should have a month where everyone has to read 1 book every week.... I think that would be much better... people would have something to think about... and probably learn something new.

Anon, I never saw a polite reader like this. You're excusing yourself before you post a comment? If you have something just say it.. we love to hear from you. I suggest you use a name or a nickname so we can refer to you from now on.

Shouldn't there be an indication of the type of books they have to read?! Fasting is never a problem and to add to your info it's not to feel what the poor people feel, it's rather a way to teach you how to control your desires and when you fail to do so and follow them then you have not fast you just made yourself hungry.

I think you should set this month for yourself to read more about fasting.

Alright I had it with you anon, will you please stop asking us to "read" as if we are a bunch of retards that came from a different planet? If you want to make a statement, say it out loud… Enough of this "GO READ" epidemic.

Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay

I guess couple guys have not used a nick name and their signature was anonymous, the name which I used to post comments on” contradiction” ,
So I need to distinguish my self here, from now on ,joker and the rest of the readers, my name is “yippy yo yippy yay” J. Also I was the first anonymous who excused to put a comment on the above.

Now, anonymous, I guess you’re the one who needs to go and read not the joker. Fasting is (among so many things) to feel what poor people go through, hence, it is not merely to (teach you how to control your desires and when you fail to do so and follow them then you have not fast you just made yourself hungry)

Problem of having more dishes than we eat, buying and storing more than what we need during the month of Ramadan (as I call it the month of hypocrisy, and I will write later the ascription of this name) is due to rather severe problems rooted in our culture, perception and attitude. A person who buys, and serves more that his/ her needs is indicative of economical mismanagement in the whole year and in different aspects of daily life, and what happens during Ramadan is just a reflection of that mismanagement. I.e. it does not make sense to assume that a family is very wise in its spending and its economical matters are thoroughly managed but it fucks up in Ramadan only, then it starts perking up the month after. Problems are rooted inside

Related to same justification are the complaints from how foreign housemaids have been involved in our houses. It is not because of their cheap salary mothers in our society have tended to depend on them to raise their kids, rather it is due to the fact that those are careless mothers toward raising their kids well and even if those maids’ salary were unaffordable, those mothers will continue in their carelessness in a different way. Women, it is not because of the maid and her presence 24/7 in your house that your husband is being disloyal to you (and even sleep with her on your bed or marry her legitimately), rather, it is because your husband has a potentiality to betray and the maid was just an opportunity or it might be due to the fact that you are not taking care of your husband well and he is using the maid as an excuse.

I think some readers might see the second paragraph as irrelevant to the main topic but allow me to say this: what I wanted to say is it is al because of us, problems deeply- rooted in us give a rise to the problems of waste in Ramadan, hypocrisy in Ramadan weird attitude during Ramadan.

(I used example of maids to reach the aforementioned point)

Now readers get ready and jump to your keyboard.

Dear Joker,

I would like to register one suggestion: for the sake of fruitful intellectual argumentation, every person (including the joker) who wants to write or make a comment about any topic to give introduction of the topic, purpose of raising the issue, findings followed by analysis and recommendation. Why?

Because simply every one is well aware of our social, economical and political problems, hence, to continue writing of their reflections will not change a thing without getting to the real causes and providing thoughts of remedy in a scientific way instead of raves.

First of all, yippy yo yippy yay, I first thought you were the second anonymous... Thank god you cleared that out... we asked you to use a name for ease of reference.. but this one is very original..

As for the second anon... thank you for the suggestion... you seem like you have the answer for everything.. but why do I need to control my desires? I am a human.. and I have needs...

apparently we were writing the last comment at the same time.. thats why I didnt include it in my last reply.....

secondly, Its not really a problem until you let it be. The lifestyle we live during ramadan isnt a problem really.. its just unproductive... and wreckless waste of food and time

First of all, excuse my English as I’m coming from a poor family (yet we fast) who couldn’t afford educating their kids in fancy private schools or send them to the UK and the States to attain their degrees from prestigious colleges.

Then allow me to tell you that the bullshit that your school teachers or imams in your neighborhood mosque stuffed your heads with, about fasting and feeling what poor people go through is not correct, as if it was, the poor people will not be asked to fast as they already feel what other poor people feel, so please stop the nonsense and talk logical and of course read more as you need to read and read and read and then maybe you will start to understand something about fasting.

“Month of hypocrisy” yes it is, but please don’t generalize as it is only for those who were hypocrite before Ramadan and will remain the same after the holly month.

The same goes for the lazy mothers and the disloyal husbands (generalization is a thing that only stupid people do).

Because you are a human and you have needs then you need to control your desires otherwise don't blame those teenagers who follow your wife or your sister in malls and shopping centers as they are humans too and they have their needs as well.

I don't think you're that anonymous... your writing style is painfully familiar... but don't worry.. I'll play along...

I am a decent human being in a civil society... why do I need someone telling me to restrain from food? To learn a lesson? What if I already did... what if I didnt want to ?

And your introduction really broke my heart and brought a tear to my eye... but its not relevant, is it? Being poor isnt an excuse for being stupid... or using a mixed up logic.... eating is like chasing someone's wife around town? You really need to get your priorities straight man... who taught you that? your "neighborhood imam"?

Only a shallow man will think that fasting is all about restraining from food, sorry man you have a misconceptuality here, fasting is a way to learn how to control the animal inside you by putting a limit to your desires.

I have asked you to read because I wanted you to know that fasting is not a Muslim thing, almost all other faiths practice some kind of fasting because the philosophers and wise men (before the eruption of your wisdom) discovered that a human cannot be a human unless he knows how to control his desires; of course they new before hand, that there will be thousands of people who have their brains in their stomachs and who will never understand fasting away from restraining from food, that’s why they said if you can’t really fast then don’t as if you starve yourself all day long then you will benefit nothing from this practice.

Dear jocker, If you don’t value this practice then you are free to quit, and I’m sure no one will ask you thilth althalatha cam

My introduction is very relevant as I didn’t want you to pick on my grammatical and spelling mistakes and forget about what I’m saying. What is a heart breaking really is your way of thinking because it looks very much that you are one of those who has their brains in their stomachs that’s if they have any.

friend... aren't you the one babbling about how Europe is great and how personal freedom is fantastic? Aren't you the one raving about how everyone in Holland is free and not like the backward Bahrain, like you're the only one thats been there? Bil 3aammi ngool mit5arri3? Once I disagree with you, you call me shallow? No, sir... thats not shallow... thats called DISAGREEING.

You keep on saying read about fasting read about fasting... sounds to me like you want me to read something in particular that supports what you're saying... why are you so sure if I read something I'll kneel and ask for your forgiveness? I think its demeaning to think that we are animals that need to be trained by taking away our nourishment... If you think of yourself as an animal.. that is your problem... I just don't believe that I have to be guilt ridden because you don't have enough self esteem to think of yourself as a decent human being that can act prudently.

I don’t think I know you (do I?) so how come you know that I was babbling about Europe and the personal freedom there?! A poor Saudi cannot afford to go there and I would be really Mit’7ari3 if I was lucky and could go (It's not easy for us as it is for you, we are poor people remember).

are you accusing me to be someone you know?! lucky you!!! Looks you have lots of friends who doesn’t like the way you think!

Back to the subject..

It’s not a problem to disagree with something; it’s rather a good thing to do but you didn’t disagree with anybody in your article, you basically diminished the need for fasting and presented it as a backward useless thing; I don’t think this is called disagreeing, I would rather call it a way to stigmatize all those who fasts for being stupid.

"I would rather call it a way to stigmatize all those who fasts for being stupid. "

thats a mighty big statement. Isn't it ironic you're the one that thought of my way opinions as stupid, misconcepts, and what did you call me last? Shallow. And now you speak on my behalf on calling people stupid?

Here is the deal, sir. You said I presented fasting as a backward thing.. that means I did a good job... If you disagree... its your job to present it in a good way that would make me think again...If you can't... all that crying and mumbling about being poor and sad and lonely just doesnt cut it. Argue for what you believe in... don't throw in that pathetic drama or resort to personal attacks

Bush goes ballistic about other countries being evil and dangerous, because they have weapons of mass destruction. But, he insists on building up even a more deadly supply of nuclear arms right here in the US. What do you think? How does that work in a democracy again? How does being more threatening make us more likeable?Isn't the country with
the most weapons the biggest threat to the rest of the world? When one country is the biggest threat to the rest of the world, isn't that likely to be the most hated country?
Are we safer today than we were before?
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren't living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.
