Do something Minister

Isn't it ironic this cartoon was drawn a while before Michael Jackson's shopping in rags surfaced? I am not really upset about what happened.. MJ can wear 2 inch ear rings and sing songs about ex husbands in downtown manama for all I care... All I'm upset about is the Minister of Information... Dr. Abdul Ghaffar.. the savior of Islam and Idol... the opressor of vice and evil... where is he now?
I'm wondering, Dr Abdul Ghaffar, when AAJ holdings hired MJ as a consultant.. did they get permission from your ministry? Do the laws you made up allow them to do that line of work, keeping in mind that big brother, nanci ajram, hakeem, and every thing else was whisked away?
What happened makes Bahrain look like the zoo of the world.. we bring in lunatics and child molestors and give them big palaces and fancy jobs. That is, of course, you genuinely believe that the actions you took in office were aimed at Bahrain's reputation.
Thats some reputation we got!
Offbeat: Keep one eye on cerebral waste! He's moving into the interviewing business.

Hey Joker,
You're comparing Apples and Oranges...Michael Jackson living has no relation to Nancy Ajram. Also, he was cleared of child molestation, so there is nothing wrong with people who were found innocent in court living here. He is not a fugitive.
No, the question we should be asking is: Is it legal in Bahrain for men to wear women's clothing?
Personally, I think it's a non-issue. It shouldn't be illegal. BUT...if it is illegal and the law is turning a blind eye for one person...that is where the problem lies. Although, in MJ's defence one could argue that the circumstances are different because he needs to be in disquise to protect his life. But then the question arises...why didn't he dress up as a mulla instead? He could have worn a false beard and a ghitra and egal...would have been just as good a disguise.

Questions, question...hmmmm....

Exactly, why the burqa? Whatever internal identity conflict he may suffer from is his own business, and quite frankly parading around in public with it clearly has drawn more attention than it was meant to deflect.

Look, all I'm saying is that if privacy was what he wanted, he could have had it by wearing an extra large thob and a thick ghuthra with the tassels. Wrap it under your chin, no ones going to notice.

If attention was what he wanted, he clearly accomplished that by being the only burqa on the island that stood more thatn 5 foot 2. Notice that his attire wouldn't pass muster with our good neighbours as it leaves a tad too much of his ankles showing.

If you put a turban on a donky, Tariq, does that make the donkey a human? Of course not. So no matter what this freak wears, is he going to change?

No. He's just reveling in his shite wherever he goes. I bet if he wears just normal clothes, and doesn't put those stupid head-garbs on his children, no body would even notice him (ok, a bit difficult, but you know what I mean.)

Joker, MoD if and when he's kicked out, we'll have a celebration. And I'm buying!

But this romour of the Minister of Disinformation being canned and his ministry disbanded has been going around for so long and everybody wishes it as we can SEE how bad a job they're doing, but he and they persist. It's like a game of "Cry Wolf"... I'll believe it when I see it.

Tariq and DIB, I can't believe you lads use a serious tone on the stupidest issue in the news. If MJ really wanted to deflect attention, he can start by not chopping off his fucking nose, changing his skin color, hiding his son behind a piece of cloth all his life, and not inviting children to sleep in his bedroom. How about that for a start?

Besides, you missed the point. MJ is a singer.. Hakeem, although sucks at it, is a singer. AAJ is a company that sets up events relevant to concerts and music I understand, and that was pretty close to what big brother was about in Amwaj.. Now how is it apples and oranges? Why did the minister cancel these events and never had the balls to talk about michael jackson? I was wondering were the minister stands on this issue. I really cant see how these issues are different.

did you forget Jermain? That failed singer off Jackson 5? Well, come to think of it all 5 are failures in their own ways, MJ is probably the most extreme example; however, they are both liked by a certain someone.

Can we all sing "ain't no sunshine" now? Wasn't that a wonderful tune. Still permeates my grey matter coupled with a shudder that its perpetrator is very much honoured and amongst us.

Bahrian, the land of has beens.

Oh, and by the way, how does our beloved burqa wearing guest (or is is a diplomatic Bahraini passport holder now?) define the time when the little hand reaches the big hand?

BED TIME!

I've got to go to mine in a few minutes, so g'night folks!

I still don't see why a person, no matter how wierd he is, shouldn't be allowed to live here. As long as he is a legal resident, it shouldn't matter and I don't see how you or I or anyone else has the right to tell him to leave.
Incidentally, I've heard that some religious group or something is planning to organise a rally to force him to leave? Can you support something like this? Bahrain is taking very early steps towards some kind of democracy...the rule of law is a key componenet of democracy...if even liberals like yourselves are opposed to a private individual, who is not wanted by the law, practicing his legal right to reside here if he wishes to, then we clearly have even a longer way to go than I thought.

Besides, I think it's good publicity for Bahrain...MJ may be a has been in some ways, but he clearly makes the news. I bet a lot of people hadn't even heard about Bahrain until Michael Jackson came here....
Who needs F1 for publicity ;) Michael Jackson is both cheaper and more effective.

Oh and Joker...you are still comparing apples to oranges. MJ never organised a concert here. He is here as a private individual who wishes to live here. Big difference between that and Nancy Ajram, Hakeem and other examples. He is just living here and he has the right to live here, just as we have the right to reside legally in his country, the United States, if we wish to.

Tariq I repeated myself and you are still spinning off the topic to an "all humans are created equal" argument!

I said it a number of times now... WHAT IS THE MINISTER DOING ABOUT THIS? I told you I don't give a flying banana what MJ does... hell I was a big fan back then... I am just putting the minister in a catch-22 while you're obviously pushing the spotlight away from him.

Besides... MJ isn't just chilling around for retirement.. I'm sure you heard the news that he joined Ahmed Abu Baker Janahi in a large music and entertainment company.. so yes its similar to what was cancelled.

I read a story in the GDN last month about a Kuwaiti being charged for dressing as a woman on Exhibition, and it's not the first time. As far as I know, It is illegal for men to dress as woman here. I am not saying I agree with with the law, but the punishment should be the same for all.I think it was SBG who said"The sheik's dog is a sheik"

2:53 PM
Blogger TariqKhonji said...

No Joker, it's not the same at all.
Concerts and art fall under the Information Ministry, Michael Jackson living here falls under the domate of immigration authorities. Two seperate things. MJ did not yet agree to serve as a consultant for AJJ Holdings but even if he does, it wouldn't fall strictly under the Information Ministry...the projects would probably fall under the Commerce Ministries of the Gulf.

4:07 PM
Blogger The Joker said...

Tariq, you think Hakeem agreeing to sing in Dana mall and MJ agreeing to organize music and entertainment with AAJ is not logical?

Lets follow the logic here then.. what is the MOI's business regulating music? What is the logic in the ministry of INFORMATION having the authority to open and close down hotels?

6:37 AM
Blogger TariqKhonji said...

"Tariq, you think Hakeem agreeing to sing in Dana mall and MJ agreeing to organize music and entertainment with AAJ is not logical?"

Joker, we spoke about this last night...the ministry found a legal reason to prevent the Hakeem concert. I'm no supporter of Tourism Affairs policies, but I am a supporter of the rule of law. If it was illegal for them to sing in a mall, the law should be ammended. You can't blame it for enforcing the law.
Now you can blame it for turning a blind eye to some things and enforcing the law in other cases...but in the Michael Jackson case he hasn't yet broken any laws so the Information Ministry cannot step in and you cannot blame it for turning a blind eye. Also, what you are saying is inacurate. He is free to organise anything he wants as long as it is legal. But he even sign anything with AJJ Holdings yet and the newspaper reports said that he was going to act as a consultant, not an organiser of anything. Not even a joint venture. Distinctly different circumstances.

As for hotels, I agree that the Ministry of Inforamtion should not be involved in regualting hotels but unfortunately Tourism Affairs falls under it. The real issue is why does it fall under Information and not under Commerce Ministry. That is an argument worth making.

So now what about Asala Nasri? I think she should be forced to give some more concerts in Bahrain now that she has been given a passport. I don't mind some of her music compared to MJ, Hakeem or Nancy Ajram.

i personally dont see what the whole fuss is about, i hear ya joker, Dr. Abdul Ghaffer should have steped in and intervened in any way possible to stop him from making a mockery out of our religon and clothing!
i was reading the bristish local newspaper today, and boy did they have a laugh, i'll tell u that!

i dont get why people just wont leave MJ alone, he's only human, who gives a rats ass what he does! just as long as its legal, its fine. Let the guy be, c'mon, our press never battered the celeberties in our society .. so why pick on him ?! or why start with him ? all of this is just gonna escalate out of control, and Bahrain will become the laughing stock of the gulf.

Oh, he's been cleared of child molestation charges under very suspect circumstances, I must say (one of the "impartial" jurors attended the Jacksons' victory celebration; another admitting she believed the boy but let MJ go because there was a "1% chance he was lying", etc), guest of this country or not, he still has to abide by the law. I personally wouldn't care if someone chooses to dress as a woman but when other people are arrested for doing so, isn't it just a sad case of double standards that he's allowed to do so as he pleases without fear of prosecution (he's since decided to take a short vacation to europe till things calm down. Not that he has to worry, the locals are busy protesting over mere cartoons...)

Re: his right to stay here, I suppose the Saudis harboring Idi Amin till his death falls under "as weird as he is, he still has a right to live (t)here" (yes, I realise a mass murderer isn't the same as a faded pop star, but my other example was Gary Glitter and he was caught). It may be because both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have no extradition treaties to the US, so he doesn't have to go back and face the music and Jacko's got quite a few coming up i.e. how he apparently lied to the authorities to get new passports issued for his "kids" while he was still in a custody battle with his ex and how he stiffed a bunch of people in his employ like a vet he owes $100,000 to, his former business partners and the poor people who still show up to work at Neverland despite not seeing their bi-weekly paychecks in, I dunno, two MONTHS...not even for Christmas!

And Tariq, I don't think Bahrain's going to be a laughing stock if we kick him out. We're doing a pretty good job of it ourselves what with the constant rallies, the lingerie mannequin ban and all the other crap that's happened recently. So what's kicking a creepy, compulsive lying, unconvicted pedophile gonna do to us? Besides, MJ used to deal with Prince Al-Walid Bin Talal 10 years ago in "entertainment fields". I'm sure his old friend will put him up. Oh, that's right, he ran off with the millions he got from his benfactor and never looked back. :)

As a parting gift, I leave you all with a few select pages that may help you get a better picture of the "sainted" Michael Jackson. It's up to you whether or not you choose to believe them. I didn't want to but a lot of it just made feel sick, especially as an uncle and as an ex-fan. Look it over and form your own opinons (or reenforce the ones you already have)

That's my good deed for the day :) Take care now :)

Thanks for your valuable contribution everyone.. especially the new kids...

The purpose of pulling out this cartoon and referring to this story isn't really that I believe in my heart of hearts that MJ is being offensive and indecent and we should kick him out.. I was just trying to nail the information minister thats drooling in a cup and making up wierd laws all in the name of Bahrain's reputation, when in fact MJ gave us a supersized Mc-fuck-up of a reputation. And I still don't care about that coz everyone can think whatever they want.

On another note... want to hear some gossip, boys and girls?

My friends work at MJ's local bank (and I wont name it).. his signature is EXACTLY the same as the one on the "Thriller" cover...
In order to have an account he should have a CPR right? His CPR says he lives in samaheej.. can you believe that?

AHAHAHA can you believe that? From sunset boulevard in LA to shari3 il 7oth il jaaff in galali.. what a world

Its not making a laughing stock of Bahrain that I'm worried about as much as the rule of law. If he is kicked out for illegitimate reasons it would be a precident to kick out others. You just can't do this to people no matter how much you may dislike them. You have to respect the law.

excuse me Tariq? kicking out people would be a precident? Do you realize we're talking about the country that exiled people for signing a petition? Besides, if you were worried so much about the rule of law, MJ broke a stupid law... he walked around in a woman's abaya.. now I don't know under which ministry this issue falls.. but hey.. where's the rule of law?

6:41 AM
Blogger Wolfwood said...

It wouldn't be the first time he's blatently disrespected the law and wriggled out of it. He suddenly "fell ill" on the day he had to face his accuser in court and the judge threatened him with arrest if he didn't show up. And what did he do? Show up in court in PYJAMAS! He represents every person with an undeserved sense of entitlement (tm Family Guy) that's never had to face up to the consequences of their actions, something we've all witnessed at one time or another over here, so he deserves to get lumped in with them...

I addressed that above in my first post. Are you trying to say that I am wrong for defending his right to stay?

" He represents every person with an undeserved sense of entitlement (tm Family Guy) that's never had to face up to the consequences of their actions, something we've all witnessed at one time or another over here, so he deserves to get lumped in with them..."

Details aside...he was never convicted. Therefore he must be presumed innocent under the rule of law.

In Islam it is forbidden for a man to dress like a woman and vice versa!!! And as the Prophet (Salallahu Alayhi wassalaam) has said the men should wear their clothes above the ankle for everything below goes in the hell fire. and He (sallalahu alayhi wassalaam) has also said that a man should not resemble a woman and vice versa. So it's not about agreeing or not these are the Clear rules given to us in this Deen Al Islam. There is no exception for no one. wa alaykum assalaam

In order to lure the customers the online pharmacies also offer cheap viagra.
